postpartum doula services

The first weeks and months with a new baby can be wonderful, exhausting, and unpredictable. A postpartum doula provides experienced, non-judgmental support that helps your family adjust to life with a newborn.

I provide in-home daytime postpartum doula support for families throughout the Pittsburgh area, with practical help, newborn care, education, and emotional support tailored to your family’s needs.

Whether you need someone to care for the baby while you shower and rest, help you feel more confident with newborn care, prepare a nourishing meal, or simply make the day feel more manageable, I’m here to help.

Every family uses postpartum doula support differently. Some days you may need help with the baby and other days you may need help taking care of yourself. My role is to meet you where you are and provide the kind of support that will make the biggest difference that day.

For new parents, caring for an infant is a lot to learn, especially when you’re tired and still recovering from birth. I can provide hands-on newborn care, education, and help you become more comfortable and confident caring for your baby.

Support may include:

  • Newborn soothing and calming techniques
  • Diapering, dressing, bathing, and basic newborn care
  • Infant sleep and behavior education
  • Babywearing guidance
  • Helping you understand your baby’s cues
  • Giving you time to shower, sleep, eat, or simply have a break
  • Sharing evidence-informed information and resources without judgment

I won’t tell you how you should parent. My goal is to give you information, practical support, and confidence so you can make the choices that work for your family.

Whether you are breastfeeding, pumping, formula feeding, combination feeding, or still figuring out what works for you, feeding a newborn can be challenging.

I can provide non-judgmental support with:

  • Getting comfortable with your feeding routine
  • Bottle feeding and paced feeding
  • Pumping logistics and routines
  • Newborn feeding patterns and cues
  • Preparing snacks and meals so you can stay nourished
  • Connecting you with lactation consultants and other professionals when specialized support is needed

Birth is a major physical and emotional experience. I can help make your recovery period more manageable by:

  • Making sure you have time to rest
  • Preparing nourishing meals and snacks
  • Helping with hydration and basic self-care
  • Providing practical support around the house
  • Caring for your baby while you sleep or recover
  • Offering a calm, supportive presence during the transition into parenthood

I don’t provide medical care, but I can help you recognize when something may need attention and connect you with your healthcare provider or another appropriate professional.

Taking care of basic household tasks shouldn’t be a top priority when you are recovering from birth and learning life with a newborn.

Depending on what your family needs, I may:

  • Prepare simple, nourishing meals
  • Stock the refrigerator with easy-to-grab food
  • Wash bottles and pump parts
  • Wash and fold laundry
  • Tidy the kitchen and other areas we’re using
  • Help organize baby supplies
  • Run an occasional local errand

Postpartum support isn’t just about the baby. Adding a new family member affects everyone in the household.

I can help partners feel more confident with newborn care, create space for them to rest, and provide practical support when they are balancing a new baby with work and other responsibilities.

If you have older children or pets, I can also help with some of the everyday tasks that become harder to manage when you’re caring for a newborn.

There is no standard postpartum doula visit because each family has their own unique needs.

When I arrive, we’ll talk about how things are going and what would be most helpful that day. Maybe you need to sleep while I care for the baby. Maybe feeding has been difficult and you need another set of hands. Maybe your refrigerator is empty and you need something nutritious to eat. Or maybe you simply need someone experienced to talk through what you’re experiencing.

A typical visit might include:

Baby care + parent rest
I care for your baby while you shower, nap, eat, exercise, work, or simply have some uninterrupted time.

Practical household support
I prepare food, wash bottles, fold baby laundry, tidy the kitchen, or help with other small tasks that make your day easier.

Newborn education
We can talk through feeding, soothing, sleep, newborn behavior, babywearing, or whatever questions have come up since the last time I saw you.

Emotional support
Sometimes having an experienced, non-judgmental person who listens can be just as valuable as having another pair of hands.

I work with families throughout the Pittsburgh area, including many working professionals and families who don’t have nearby family available to help.

Postpartum doula support can be especially helpful if:

  • You’re becoming a parent for the first time
  • You want to prioritize your rest and recovery
  • You felt overwhelmed after the birth of your other children
  • You’ve experienced postpartum depression or anxiety before
  • You’re expecting twins or multiples
  • Your partner will be returning to work soon
  • You have limited family or other support nearby
  • You’re balancing a new baby with a demanding career
  • You want practical, experienced help without judgment
  • You simply want someone knowledgeable in your corner during the transition

Many families contact me during pregnancy so they can arrange support before the baby arrives. Others reach out after birth when they realize they could use an extra pair of hands.

I recommend reaching out during pregnancy whenever possible as I am usually booked 3-6 months in advance. That said, if your baby has already arrived, it’s still worth asking about availability.

My daytime postpartum doula clients typically schedule 2–3 visits per week, with visits lasting 4 hours.

Some families want more frequent support during the early weeks and gradually reduce their visits. Others prefer a smaller amount of support spread over a longer period.

I generally work with families during the first one to three months after birth, but the right schedule depends on your circumstances, needs, and availability.

My daytime postpartum doula rate is $40 per hour.

I also offer a 2-hour Preparing for Baby Consultation for $200 for expecting parents who want personalized guidance before their baby arrives.

Some families may be able to use HSA/FSA funds or employer-sponsored fertility benefits toward postpartum doula services. I am also recognized by employer birth coverage programs.

I’m a DONA-certified postpartum doula with more than five years of experience supporting Pittsburgh families through the transition to life with a new baby.

Before becoming a doula, I worked as a special education teacher, service coordinator for children with disabilities, and Behavior Specialist Consultant. I also hold master’s degrees in anthropology and education.

That background has shaped the way I approach postpartum support: practical, observant, calm, and non-judgmental.

I won’t tell you that there’s one right way to feed, soothe, sleep, or parent your baby. I’ll listen to what matters to your family, share information when it’s helpful, and work alongside you to make those first months a little easier.
